I really like Project Euler. I'm unsure why it's coming up now, but everyone is new to it at some point.
Some advice: people should definitely start off in linear order to warm up, and it's worth sticking with a problem for a while... but I think at some point it becomes valuable to skip around a bit and do the next one if you get stuck. These are the sort of problems where a fresh perspective can be very valuable.
Also, reading the solutions from the forum thread that is unlocked after you solve one will give you a LOT of insight - definitely do that.
