- masklinn 5y agoBy far the most interesting part is the floating point mess in TC:NYC, and that the PS2... always operates in fast-math semantics (or even worse, as apparently it doesn't even know INF). And that the developers of the port didn't / couldn't patch a physics engine relying on these (ubiquitously apparently), so they added a software exception handler to handle that issue, unsurprisingly the thing's then dog-slow.
- breakingcups 5y agoThat game and all its ports have a troubled development history with incredible time-crunch and are absolutely riddled with bugs. I can recommend you to watch a commentated speedrun at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzgqiQ5VGLI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzgqiQ5VGLI , you could get a rundown of some of the things that are wrong with the PC port. It's a mess of a game. From the top of my head: * Turning down the voice volume leads to an 8 minute time save because the game doesn't wait for these lines to be completed anymore either. * The game runs about 30% faster on PC than other platforms * The buttons, inputs, etc. in the PC pre-game settings screen are completely non-functional * The mouse sensitivity is so bad that you literally need to increase your mouse speed 20-fold before you get a reasonable result. * All weapon models have lost their textures and are completely white * You can just wiggle through most walls * When you're on the main menu you'll see the city scrolling by in the background. You'll also hear random exclamations like "OH SHIT!" and "Oof!". That's because the city scrolling by is actually your character glued onto a car driving through the city, of which your character is not exactly aware so he keeps freaking out.
