Why do people seem to care about electric planes? If the fuel is synthesized through a clean process isn't an energetically dense fuel better?

Seems like a pretty big IF there. What is the carbon net of that process?

Is zero good enough? The process would bank fuel produced using solar and wind during the parts of each day/night when each is cheapest.
