- civilized 5y agoBut everyone who knows and cares about the human diet says to avoid highly processed foods. Maybe he works in this field because he believes in it?

And there are many indications that this is the cause of many modern diseases as rise of diseases correlates with rise of seed oils not industrializations. "It has been estimated that in developed countries, the ratio of omega-6s to omega-3s is closer to 15:1" "It has been claimed that among hunter-gatherer populations, omega-6 fats and omega-3 fats are typically consumed in roughly a 1:1 ratio" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatty_acid_ratio_in_food https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatty_acid_ratio_in_food also https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/is-canola-oil-healthy https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/is-canola-oil-healthy
- tfehring 5y agoWorth mentioning that canola oil apparently has a much lower omega-6 to omega-3 ratio than butter, lard, olive oil, or coconut oil, not to mention other industrial seed oils. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatty_acid_ratio_in_food#Oils https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatty_acid_ratio_in_food#Oils
- lifeplusplus 5y agoThat's true, but as one of the links mentions oil is used in large quantity and is the top contributor even though its ratio is fairly better than other items. So if you use butter or coconut oil, you're getting around 400 vs 2.6k omega-6. So if you eat something that has better omega-3 ratio you'd need to eat lots of that to balance it out. When you switch to butter from canola you are essentially trading omega-6 for monosaturated/saturated fat.
- baybal2 5y ago> cause of many modern diseases as rise of diseases correlates with rise of seed oils not industrializations. I think the rise of "modern diseases* really correlates with a certain nation getting really severely obese, and this is by far the most believable, and obvious explanation.
- lifeplusplus 5y agoWHICH could also be fully or partially explained by use of seed oils.. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4808858/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4808858/

- tomohawk 5y agoIt's almost impossible to avoid soybean oil in the US. Higher quality foods tend not to have it. I have a family member who is unable to tolerate soybean oil, and that has led to healthier food choices for all of us.
- hirundo 5y agoStrange how many benefits constraints can have. I can't tolerate fiber or sugar, pushing me into becoming a carnivore for the last year. Almost zero seed oils. Improved health metrics across the board. In a way, because of two chronic diseases, I'm healthier than I've been in years.
- tsol 5y agoAs someone with migraines, I can relate. Many of the triggers are common health risks like sleep deprivation, processed foods(for me), lack of exercise, improper hydration. In trying to get rid of them I've basically just had to become much more healthy. In the long run, it's actually fairly positive. In the short run, though, it can certainly be a pain sometimes
- baybal2 5y agoYet another very tendentious "* making us sick" from detox fraudsters. A small detail that mister missed is that billions of people outside of rich world subsist on dalda, and soybean oil, and are on average way healthier than average American.
- Beaver117 5y agoIt's an interesting theory. I read about it previously here on a different post, "ROS Theory of Obesity" and "The Croissant Diet". I'm not sure if it will lead to results though (I tried only consuming saturated and mono-unsaturated fats instead of poly-unsaturated for a week and didn't lose any weight"). Also, hasn't China been using soybean oil for centuries? Would love to see some more research on this but it doesn't seem like the solution yet.
