Jeff Dean: AI isn't as smart as you think – but it could be
- belter 5y agoMore important than how smart AI will be, is how is going to be used Mr. Dean "I Quit Google Over Its Censored Chinese Search Engine. The Company Needs to Clarify Its Position on Human Rights" https://theintercept.com/2018/12/01/google-china-censorship-human-rights/ https://theintercept.com/2018/12/01/google-china-censorship-...
- throwaway29303 5y agoThe interviewer, at the end of the talk, almost touched an important and fundamental aspect of what Google is doing. In fact, what everyone who's working with machine learning is trying to do: Who gets to decide what view of the world is normal and acceptable by everyone? The problem with this question is that no matter how one approaches it there will be a part of society (or even between countries) who's going to be left out[0] or will have to adapt to this new way of thinking (or how the model performs)... And at that point we have to ask ourselves: are we being really ourselves or are we being modeled after the sum of the outputs of all machine learning models out there? When Sundar Pichai said AI is more profound than electricity or fire[1] he wasn't just making a public relations or marketing statement.
