If it's too heavy to fly the cost reductions don't matter. There are no proposed designs that use batteries that can carry anywhere near the weight of the current generation of airliners.
- kurthr 5y agoI don’t think that long range jumbo jets are the target here. I’m also doubtful that batteries will be the dominant power source. I think it’s speculative, but there are certainly DARPA funds/projects available, and they (and FAA) actually do care whether these can fly.
