Who Has the Most Historical Responsibility for Climate Change?
- Kaibeezy 5y agoPowerful graphic. Maybe the US and China ought to take a leadership role here. Just spitballin'.
- jschveibinz 5y agoThe assignment of responsibility for human contributions to climate change is simple: it is the responsibility of individual people, just like you and me. There is no need to abstract the responsibility to a country, a company, an economic system, a social class or any other way of dividing up humanity into convenient groups to assign responsibility. That’s a divisive strategy that is guaranteed to fail. The population of the planet, in the midst of transformational changes in technology and lifestyles, has grown from 1 billion in 1800 to almost 8 billion in 2021. That is at least an 800% increase (but probably much more) in consumption and associated pollution. This is not that hard to understand. The individual needs to take responsibility, or nothing will change.
