On moving: I've made a BIG mistake (Louis Rossmann)
- dredmorbius 5y agoEveryone is fighting a hard battle. Others see our highlight reels, we see all the outtakes and mistakes. Haters gonna hate. Trying to appease sworn enemies rarely works. Set boundaries. Their truths will all but certainly be stated from others. (At the same time, don't shoot messengers or dismiss all bad news.) I've been faking imposter syndrome for the past 30 years. Success is a combination of hard work, infrastructure, and luck. Timing has the biggest impact on outcome. (IdeaLab founder Bill Gross has a good TED Talk on this: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=bNpx7gpSqbY https://yewtu.be/watch?v=bNpx7gpSqbY) A marvelous quote from the practice of navigation that can be applied anywhere: "The Art of ship handling involves the effective use of forces under control to overcome the effect of forces not under control." -- Charles H. Cotter. The same applies to business, engineering, and life. It is hard, hard, hard to admit things aren't going well. It's crucial to be able to address this with as little personal grief and harm as possible. Pain is a signal, and the signal usually means "stop doing this". I've become a fan of Rossman's over the past year or so, for his business, right-to-repair, and real estate videos, all of which have been excellent. You've got this Louis. And those of you out there who aren't as free in sharing their personal struggles (as I'm not), can take a lot of inspiration from him.
