If Einstein Had the Internet: An Interview with Balaji Srinivasan
- 1cvmask 5y agoBalaji is definitely one of the more interesting people to follow. Here are some recent threads from him: On the Gell-Man amnesia effect: https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1456611599511212034 https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1456611599511212034 On woke capital: https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1456344147103653889 https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1456344147103653889 On the status of SF: https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1457407377167114243 https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1457407377167114243
- PragmaticPulp 5y agoProbably an unpopular opinion, but I've followed Balaji for a couple years and haven't derived much value. He's very good at writing Tweets and spinning narratives that are popular among his followers, but his writings have this grandiose nebulosity that makes them feel like deep, intellectual writings while simultaneously not really delivering much of substance. Or the concepts are so high-level or only addressing something so far off in the future that there's little room for practical conversation. For example, from one of your linked Tweet threads: > The pseudonymous economy is preferable to ritualistic announcements of immutable characteristics. Okay but why? That video (while I disagree with their decisions) wasn't the "woke" crisis that everyone thought, but rather a ham-fisted attempt to include more narration for the benefit of audio-only listeners. The execution was dumb, but it's more of a fumble than a harbinger of some epic societal shift that Twitter users like to use as a springboard for pseudo-intellectual rants.
- cblconfederate 5y agoWhat do you think about the idea of the network state? What do you think the metaverse is? He was the reason why i took the pandemic seriously before it unfolded One other thing that is of value to me is seeing how to be sincerely engaging without being a narcissistic asshole
