Only binaries are released. Binaries are timestamped and linked to a changelist. The "opt-in upgrades" are all live code. I know more than a few "foo" "foo2" directories, but I wouldn't want an actively-delivered, long-running service to be living in a feature branch so I would still expect anyone to be using a similar naming scheme.
