It also wasn’t obvious whether hop supports adding data with an operation that isn’t just append (a stricter requirement for tar because it was designed for magnetic tape). It wasn’t clear to me from the table. sqlar can add to an existing archive and doesn’t require uncommon software to extract if you don’t have the right tool to hand.
