'Europe is in danger': top diplomat proposes EU military doctrine
- onecommentman 5y agoThe article is paywalled, but available on other non-paywalled sites. “Europe is in danger” but “a separate threat assessment is confidential”? Diplomats rumor about “failing states on Europe’s frontiers” but don’t dare identify them? Diplomats do however suggest the EU, or some subset, will unilaterally send “peacekeepers” to these non-EU regions? Aww…you really shouldn’t have. Like, no, you really shouldn’t. (Former European colonies roll their eyes.) The UN won’t, NATO won’t…for some unknown reason, only the EU must send troops? Under what scenario will UN/NATO not respond but the EU be justified in intervening militarily? And if the EU, or some subset, unilaterally sends troops to Nation A, and Nation A or an ally sends hypersonic missiles and bombs an EU country, is the entirety of NATO then obligated to respond? I would guess the EU will say no for now…until NATO (USA) is politically forced to intervene after EU bumbling and more Americans will be added to the 104366 American dead buried under European soils as a result of European military “activities” in the 20th Century. Every one a mother’s son, and now daughters can join them too! The USA wouldn’t want to be seen as isolationist, after all. When has the US heard that tune before? Wisely, Biden is basically staying out of it, in spite of what the article suggests. “You EU work out the details” is diplospeak for “it’s your (and your citizens) funeral, bub”. Actual funerals, BTW.
