Apple M1 Pro Review – Is It Faster Than Intel/AMD? [video]
- neogodless 5y agoThis is a solid set of productivity, gaming and power consumption tests, showing the M1 Pro in comparison to the best 35W and 45W laptop CPUs from Intel and AMD. The short take is that it is competitive in productivity, still falling short in gaming (mostly due to a lack of support), and amazing in efficiency. Which we pretty much already knew. But it also shows that it is competitive with these laptop CPUs, while not destroying them in performance, though it is well ahead in some tasks like code compilation. The efficiency is beyond compare, though. And anyone who could buy this for anything other than gaming, and get cutting edge performance. This is one of the few comparisons I've seen that focused on comparing the Macbook Pro to Intel/AMD rather than just past Intel-based Macbook Pros, though it does include a relatively comparable CPU (to Intel-based Macbooks) in the tests as well. They also have a written version of the article for those that prefer to read rather than watch. https://www.techspot.com/review/2357-apple-m1-pro/ https://www.techspot.com/review/2357-apple-m1-pro/
- rbanffy 5y ago> still falling short in gaming (mostly due to a lack of support) It's pretty outstanding it can emulate an x86 fast enough for games to be playable. The way Android SDK suffers when emulating even a puny cellphone ARM SoC is telling. Remember: this is a workstation-class laptop, not a playstation-class one ;-)
- warrenm 5y agoI've been running a 13" M1 MBP since April It'll run for well over a work day doing work tasks (VDI session, video chats, etc) and have enough charge to watch a movie after work The bigger battery, improved efficiency, and faster processing of the new M1 Pro and M1 Max is only good stuff going forward
- warrenm 5y agoKinda surprised they didn't for comparing the M1 Max model ... but the fact the higher-end M1 Pro is more-or-less identical in performance to these AMD and Intel offerings, but draws so much less power is awesome
