It is considered socially unacceptable to say things directly in America, so one should always try to fluff everything over with vague, feel good terms and code words. Anyway, I shouldn't have called it a 'problem' as Americans are completely fine with that, and they like it that way. My only point is the behavior the author of the article is talking about only happens in America.
