I don't understand where the expectation/conception comes from that simply throwing money at a problem should help. Development aid has been provided in many countries for years in the billions, but little or nothing changes. This is rather a structural problem that money is only paid out to the leading class or only they benefit from it thanks to corruption and bad leadership.
- CapitalistCartr 5y agoYeah, I'm having trouble seeing a way that six billion will "solve World hunger". It's a lot of money, but hunger is a complex, messy problem.
- verdverm 5y agoThe World Food guy said that this $6B he was talking about was a one time payment to help with the secondary effects from covid, not that it would actually solve the problem in perpetuity. The media is misleading once again
- brodouevencode 5y agoLet's break this down: 1) The people making these statements think they have the knowledge and ability to solve the world's problems or 2) Those same people believe they have actual influence over the people that may actually be able to solve those problems. Either way, the level of arrogance to reach either of those points is astonishing.
