Sam Altman on reducing economic inequality
- fillskills 5y agoIt's funny how all billionaires do is complain about taxing the rich and how inefficient the govt is at doing things. Instead what is needed from all these so called smart people is sharing solutions on how to close tax loopholes and admitting that there is way too much leverage because of the internet for some people to make previously unfathomable amounts of money. These thoughts can coexist with the fact that an open economy is good.
- PaulHoule 5y agoIt goes the other way around. If ordinary people have money to spend, they can spend money on new products and services that create billionaires. If ordinary people don't have money to spend you have another kind of "circular economy" where early investors put money in to make money from the later investors who are greater fools.
- stevespang 5y agoStill rolling on the floor in fits how Sam got taken and gave away 1/3rd $$$ Billion for Fusion research . . . the Holy Grail, right ?
- shmageggy 5y ago> Said another way, you can either believe 1) the pie can grow a lot (and so, e.g. we should encourage trillionaires and the creation of far more wealth), or 2) it can’t (and so, e.g., we should abolish billionaires and divide up everything we have now equally). What a naive and ridiculous false-dichotomy. This just takes as a premise that growth and ever-widening inequality are inextricably linked. Is this just a sly rhetorical trick or do these people actually believe what they write? I don't that he's so uncreative that he simply can't image any alternative possibilities. Or is being a beneficiary of the current system so blinding that it obscures any honest and critical thinking?
