That's nothing compared to stuff like drivers/support software for HP printers (82MB) or Logitech mouse/keyboard (301MB). These two alone are already bigger than a full Windows 2000 Server iso (370MB).
- IYasha 5y agoYou've touched the painful spot ) https://ibb.co/r3f9JyR https://ibb.co/r3f9JyR I don't know what does nVidia put in those HUGE driver DLLs (probably FPGA config), but that could be fine unless TONS of bloatware round.
- TheRealDunkirk 5y agoThe mouse "driver" situation drives me crazy. What the hell are they doing in there!? I won't install them. I buy simple mice, and don't need anything that Windows doesn't provide. I fear that they're embedding something nefarious in there, like surreptitious crypto mining. We used to get real work done on a 10 MB HDD. We had space for DOS, Windows 3.11, Lotus, and Wordperfect, and there was room left over for Doom. Now computers are many orders of magnitude "faster," yet I find that I'm waiting for things to render on my $4,000 laptop. It's infuriating at times.
- qwertox 5y agoI have a Logitech MX Anywhere S2 mouse. It is an excellent mouse, and I use every button which I map via AutoHotkey to useful things. But LogiOptionsMgr and LogiOverlay are together using 116 MB of RAM. This is a thing that these two apps could defer to the OS, probably by setting some registry keys, and that would make them obsolete, except for when I need to do some reconfiguration.
- csdvrx 5y agoI'm looking for a mouse that I could use with AutoHotKey, without bloated drivers but just Microsoft default drivers. Can you do that with the Logitech MX Anywhere S2? Also, do you know some good trackballs with extra buttons?
- qwertox 5y agoThis Logitech MX Anywhere S2 needs at least the LogiOptions.exe running in order to be able to use the two thumb buttons (not sure if it is required for the tilting of the scrollwheel). They can then be set to trigger a key combination when pressed (like Ctrl+Shift+Alt+F11/F12) which then can be used by AutoHotkey as a trigger event. So this LogiOptionsMgr.exe is not really needed, but it gets loaded anyway. I've never used trackballs.
- csdvrx 5y agoThanks a lot! Losing the 2 thumbs button in the worst case is an acceptable tradeoff, so I'll try to get one.
- qwertox 5y agoYou won't regret it. One tip: If after a year or so a button starts to double-trigger, just hit it hard a couple of times, that fixes it. That was the only problem I had with this mouse. Scrolling is excellent, works on any surface, can be paired to three devices (also via Bluetooth), the battery lasts really long on one charge and it's relatively small. You'll find uses for the thumb buttons, like CTRL + Shift + T to reopen the last closed tab in the browser.
- Bayart 5y agoThe driver is lightweight, all the cruft is in the management GUI.
