Scientists pour cold water on Bill Gates' nuclear plans
- PaulHoule 5y agoI was reading about what they were planning to do and I was a bit incredulous. Specifically they want to build a sodium cooled fast breeder reactor. This is a challenging technology that the French and Japanese failed with. (For one thing, liquid sodium catches fire on contact with air or water -- Russians and Americans say fires happen in industrial facilities all the time, you just put them out.) It's not impossible these problems could be solved, and solving them could be worth it (today's "nuclear waste" could fuel our civilization for a century with fast reactors) but they have kept their cards close to their chest and not given any indication they're taking the problems seriously.
