The trouble is how do we determine who is a senior+ engineer if we don’t look for specific tech skills? I interviewed a guy once who was applying for an architect position who didn’t know what DI was. Not knowing what DI was meant there was a strong indication he didn’t know much Java either. At what point do we say maybe he’s just not qualified for the job? Maybe he’s not yet architect material, nor a senior engineer, no matter what he claims. Most importantly, why on earth would I pass up engineers who do know what DI is for this guy?
