The left calls it Misinformation, the Right calls it Fake News.
One of the problems with fact checkers, articles are not normally a binary true/false, and a rating system depends on a bias of the author.
Remove descriptive words and just use basic facts and it gives a better view. Its common to slant articles by the author/reporter, they will pretend to know the speakers motive and agenda, and influence the article.
The knife was a great site for tearing through the news, removing descriptions and getting to the primary facts. That NXIVM cult bought "The Knife of Aristotle" and renamed it "The Knife Media". I'm not sure if the cult was only funding or ran it, but they hired accredited reporters that boiled down articles to bare facts, gave a very good bias check.
What they exposed was news that made the other political parties did spin news. If it was a neutral news story, both sides would spin pieces that made other side look bad by interjecting observations from the reporter.
Even Media Fact check rated it rather high on factual reporting. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-knife/ https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-knife/
An archive of an article to show how they rated "spin". https://archive.md/0WyY4 https://archive.md/0WyY4
I keep hoping some great programmer would create a program to strip away descriptors in news articles, and try to boil an article down to the bare facts. But I won't hold my breath, only sensationalization of news is what makes the cut, people only share the most vitriol of articles now.
Take Fox News, Fox News local is rather factual on reporting, Fox News Cable is mostly right leaning talk and opinion. And you know what is shared the most? Opinion talk news clips.
It's like reporters don't care about the real facts, just "gotcha" against their political opponents. If the article doesn't get shared, the reporter doesn't make a name for themselves. Shared articles drive traffic. So you can see this is a race towards the bottom in factual news, over opinion "gotcha" articles.
Take the supply chain issues, the left blames truckers, the right blames covid closures. When you look into it, you see epa issues, ab5 in california issues, port issues, its way more complicated, but each side picks a piece that makes the other look bad. That CEO transport twitter post the other day on ports was a good example that neither the left or right news is fully factual.
