I ran a BBS when I was 9-14 years old and because I did I got sysop(root) rights on lot of the other BBSs. I ran it when my parents were asleep so I often was awake swapping disks etc and downloading from other systems during the day when my parents were at work. I had to pay the costs out of my pocket; this was first paid with money from strawberry picking and a little later from educational software which sold to most grade and high schools in the Netherlands. The ratios were never there for me as I ran my own bbs and I also helped others mod their bbs software (the Pascal ones) which they rewarded with root rights to their systems.
