- AIorNot 5y agoUmm NO. because the higher death toll and damage done by willfully ignoring prudent mass vaccination advice has already occurred in Florida https://www.factcheck.org/2021/11/scicheck-desantis-comments-social-media-posts-mislead-on-covid-19s-toll-in-florida/ https://www.factcheck.org/2021/11/scicheck-desantis-comments...
- dragonwriter 5y agoFlorida’s recent death rate is still above the national average (0.44 vs 0.37 per 100k). The Right media (and people parroting it) have been pushing Florida’s low case rates for a month or more (after spending most of the pandemic mocking case rates as unreliable and pointing to the importance of looking at death rates) while ignoring their hospitalization and death rates.

- tzs 5y agoGraph of weekly per capita case rates of California and Florida [1] and also for all US regions. Same for weekly death rates [2]. And here are cumulative case and death rates [3][4]. Florida has at all times done worse than California on cases except at the end of 2020/beginning of 2021 and the last 3 weeks. Similar on deaths. Florida's third wave (which occurred AFTER over half their population was vaccinated) was way bigger than their second wave which occurred late 2022/early 2021, before vaccines were available. In fact, Florida's post-vaccine third wave performance is worse than most state's pre-vaccine second wave. In the last 3 months they went from around 25th in total per capita deaths to 6th.
