Intel's Pentium Processor (John Crawford, Donald Alpert and Beatrice Fu) [video]
- guerrilla 5y agoI highly recommend this video if you're overwhelmed by how modern microarchitectures work. This is a joint lecture recorded in 1993 by the the John Crawford who was the project manager and Donald Alpert who was responsible for the technical definition and quantification as well as Beatrice Fu (a compiler expert whose role in the project I don't know.) I thought it was a nice overview from a time when things were just starting to get interesting but were still comprehensible by a lay programmer. I had no idea the Pentium had a 64-bit data bus. Also interesting to see how simple branch prediction started out. I'd like to learn a bit more about that at some point.
