"Computer science degree" is not an ambiguous term, in fact (in the US) the goals and curriculum of the degree are explicitly defined by accrediting institutions. At the very least, it's not intended just to teach web development, and that's not up for debate.
- franga2000 5y agoIt's not just the degree itself, it's what the expectations from that degree are. Why students are pursuing a CS degree is what informs what the goals should be and in turn what they should and shouldn't learn. And as that varies greatly between students as well as institutions. OP wasn't saying "you can't pass the designated curriculum of a CS degree without this arcane knowledge", they were saying you shouldn't pursue it in the first place. There are many reasons to pursue a CS degree, therefore there are many different situations you'd need to evaluate their statement on. It's quite ambiguous.
