Open source games list (OSGL)
- mdtrooper 5y agoIt is a good webpage. Maybe the last year I saw it with the old design. But I remembered it thanks to the subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/opensourcegames/ https://www.reddit.com/r/opensourcegames/ , and wow new OSGL is awesome and it has a lot of work.
- zzo38computer 5y agoFree Hero Mesh is my own project, and I have some comments about the presentation there: 1. It is a code repository, but Fossil instead of Git. (Maybe it should be listed as such.) 2. Although it contains JavaScript code, it is used only at compile time to produce the similarly named .h files. If you are not modifying the instruction set of Free Hero Mesh, then you do not need to execute (or modify) the JavaScript files. All code actually used at run time is written in C. 3. In addition to SDL, it also depends on SQLite. 4. It is a clone of an existing game engine (the Hero Hearts engine), although with many new features added, and can be used without the original engine and without the original puzzles (although the puzzles from the original game will work if you have them). 5. There is also a mirror of the repository (on Chisel), in case the main one is not always accessible. Both of them contain the same files and either of them can be cloned. (I don't know if that is relevant for this case, but there it is.) It is in a usable state, but will need others (who are interested in this kind of game) to help with this project, including to test it, review, etc. I can also comment about the mention of ZZT there. Reconstruction of ZZT actually is ZZT (it was rewritten (since the original source code was lost) but produces the same executable file as the original), not just a clone of it; there are also forks of it which add and change features (including ClassicZoo and others). Zeta and KevEdit are some of the tools, although there are other open source tools for dealing with ZZT, including some that I wrote myself (since I don't use git, you probably won't find mine on GitHub, although many of the ones other than mine are on GitHub; mine are still available from my own computer and from Chisel, though).
