Compensation and/or affirmative action is not discrimination. If someone is actively denied access to resources and opportunities at all levels in the society, then ensuring that systems and process exist to process such access is not a discrimination against oppressors. It's like saying that it's discriminatory to have oppressors stop oppressing people or to ask racists to not be racists.
- marginalia_nu 5y agoI think you need to define discrimination before can argue convincingly either way. The broad definition of the word discriminate is just treating different people or things differently, the antonym being indiscriminate (making no difference between people or things). But you seem to be using some other definition.
- paulryanrogers 5y agoA technical definition of discrimination such as "never consider X" is deceptively simple. In practice humans are tribal and the biggest tribes have sometimes subtle advantages. Attempts to balance the scales may themselves fit a technical definition of discrimination, but without them human nature tends to grind down members of smaller tribes.
