Are you sure on that? Doctor selection is a bit more annoying but I thought they covered “the same stuff”? Either way marketplace is a bit of a mess, I had one for a year and ended up getting screwed by the local hospital for 10k.
- sterlind 5y agoIn my case, I seem to have occult tethered cord (among other things.) MRIs suggest it but aren't conclusive, so my physiatrist wants to send me to a neurosurgeon at Stanford for more specialized testing. My sciatic nerves are obviously snagged on something, easily verifiable mechanically, but nobody can say where. I'm losing sensation and motor function in my legs so paraplegia is a real risk if I don't get it treated. There are maybe three places in the US which can diagnose me definitively. I also need weekly PT for the rest of my life (the tethered cord is a complication of a genetic disorder) but most insurance only covers a few PT sessions a year. I have no faith anything less than god-tier insurance will keep me from becoming severely incapacitated. My strategy has been to front-load the expensive stuff (surgery, diagnostics, power chair) so I can maintain my health more cheaply, in case I decide to change careers or have to go on disability.
