Hello HN! Today I bring to you a project that I've been working on for the better part of 2 years. It's a Game Engine that allows you to make games that look 3D with zero 3D modelling experience.
The engine uses a technique called Sprite Stacking to simulate 3D perspective from 2D sprites. This means that you can create 3D objects by drawing 2D images - this greatly reduces the skill, time and patience needed to create assets for your games.
The engine currently uses JavaScript for scripting. Kotlin support is on the way!
Everything is written in Kotlin and Java. The program is built on top of Libgdx, so OpenGL is used for rendering.
Let me know if you have any questions or comments. Thanks!
- shetill 5y agoAs someone without 3D experience who's done 3D modelling I can tell you drawing 2D sprites is way more difficult, I rather do 3D modelling than that so if anything it makes the development harder. But cool concept anyway.
- defaultcompany 5y agoSprite stacking 3D engine sounds cool. But tbh I was not able to get any feel of what you are talking about from the single static image on your website. Maybe a video would be helpful?
- Closi 5y agoLooks great! My only comment would be that it doesn’t actually show what a real game looks like in it. Have you built any sample games in it that you could share on the page?
