I think this just makes sense. Going forward, companies, especially those that are remote, are going to have to figure out how to support less-senior engineers. I think the hotness of the market from the pandemic made it easy to only hire senior and staff+ engineers, but now it’s time to return to growing the industry from the bottom up. Besides, as a senior or staff engineer, you should welcome this change because it gives you new opportunities to mentor and educate less-senior engineers, which is usually a prerequisite to promoting beyond staff.
