I did a project for a major financial company everyone on HN has heard of. I used async python with just a crazy amount of data coming in mostly all at once (think end of market) and then had to pipe it to different places with a huge emphasis on prioritization. It worked really, really, really well. I'm not saying I'd rather use Async over web workers, but when you have the right task for this tool and you architect the solution around it intelligently it really does shine.
