We Don't Need Bigger Screens in Cars. We Need Lots of Tiny Screens
- aurizon 5y agoThe old gauges had wires to a harness, which became very complex. A modern harness could be uncorrodable fiber from the sensor, with a laser counter shining down the same fiber with a small solar cell sealed in the sensor for power to a laser aggregator with a line to the CPU/dash where the data is displayed. Separate small screens tasked to a set of sensors could work, possibly meaning a smaller main display. Displays are cheap, so I can see some potential. I see many Chinese as well as Japanese ecars with smaller screens - hard to say how it will settle?
- jqpabc123 5y agoHow about no screens? Give us the usual basic data as analog displays (or digital simulations thereof if you prefer). Nothing works better at conveying the basics for managing the task of driving. For anything else, use verbal feedback and voice recognition or a Bluetooth link to the ever present smartphone. The big display screen is an abomination and an attention distracting safety issue. If you want to build displays into the back of headrests to entertain the kids, that's OK but adults driving don't need entertainment or unnecessary distractions.
