I think we are nearing the point where "liberals" or "the left" would have to meet reality. "reject the idea that some children are naturally gifted" That's simply not true, empirically not true. Clearly some children are naturally gifted in math, ability to play music, drawing, computer programming, sport, learning foreign languages and so on. Obviously we can ignore reality, in the same way as not-so-long dead communistic block ignored reality of economy, but this always end up in the same way - reality wins, soon or later, but the price of learning this is typically rather high. The tragic part here is that obviously rich kids will go to private schools that will let them develop their skills and talents. Those who will be hurt are gifted kids from poor families.
