Legally settling somewhere and then asserting self determination by necessity seems to be quite different morally from unprovoked military contest by an existing nation. Under this moral framework if there's no nation you like you're forever doomed to being a second class citizen. If attacked , the only moral choice is to let aggressors kill you.
