There was that one presidential assassination attempt by drone, but it didn't succeed (and wasn't in the US.) It used a bomb, I guess since it's easier (don't have to add actuators for the trigger, or targeting or anything.) Gun drones seem a lot more effective, though. They could hang out at a distance inconspicuously, up high, and fire on the target. Takes a lot more skill though. DIY electronics and 3D printing will become as taboo as DIY chemistry, I fear.
