Microsoft: Woke Capital Incarnate

- rvz 5y agoI wonder if these guys think that we are here for them to waste time announcing their identities rather than getting to the point and show us what you have. I used to have high respect for Microsoft when they just did a plain announcement and just got to the point. Like this one [0]. Now it's just professional time wasting with irrelevant rituals about the presenters mixing tech into politics, race, gender, etc once again. That is much worse than some other overhyped announcements. Talk is cheap. Show me the code|money|product. - WalterGR 5y agoI’m looking forward to the nuanced and intellectually gratifying discussion that all HN submissions with the word “woke” in the title attract.
- rsj_hn 5y agoI assume it will be about as nuanced as those HN submissions with the words "Big Tech" in the title
- iab 5y agoYou might enjoy my upcoming book: “Is big tech too woke: How cancel culture is cancelling your antivax libtards (let’s go Brandon, and other dumfoolery)”
- Jugurtha 5y agoThere were visually impaired people who commented on the original tweet who said it really helped them that the participants described themselves. They also shared how they use a screen reader to read tweets and reply. It sounds stupid until someone for whom it's useful comments, and it also reminds us of a Hanlonish razor of never attributing something to someone's stupidity if we can attribute it to our own malice.
- wassenaar10 5y agoThe listing of every native American group that's ever occupied the place is comical to me. All of world history involves the push and pull of various groups competing for land and resources. Somehow we're supposed to treat every single one of the hundreds of pre-Columbian peoples who occupied North America with a sort of reverence like they were the only rightful inhabitants of the continent. Even though these hundreds of groups fought amongst each other for land and resources before and after the arrival of Europeans. Every single major conflict in North America since 1492 (including the American civil war) has seen Native groups fighting on both sides - because they were people with agency and not monolithic in their views and interests. Do people in other parts of the world act like this? When a conference is held in conference in Turkey, is it important to mention that the area was previously controlled by Mongols, Seljuk Turks, Christian Greeks, Romans, Hellenic Greeks, Persians, Assyrians, Luwians, Hittites, Hattians, etc. ?
- NonEUCitizen 5y agoAssuming the video isn't a spoof... Talk is cheap. Instead of mentioning the various Native-American groups on whose land its HQ sits, Microsoft should return the property to its rightful owners.
- hncurious 5y agoThey could easily afford it too. They have over $130B cash in hand.
- erik_seaberg 5y agoThere’s nowhere to go that wasn’t claimed and reclaimed by force.
- vinyl7 5y agoWatching the fall of Rome would be fun if I didn't live in Rome
