- rektide 5y agomy understanding is that a number of (already deluxe expensive fancy) motherboards have add-on chips to further jack up the cost i mean add thunderbolt4 support. i haven't seen any indicators that the kick ass readily available on chip 4x 40 Gbps of connectivity that intel mobile chips offer on integrated tb4 is available on desktop. this, to me, constrains the desktop from being a good movipe partner to the great laptops available. at least usb4 mandates host-to-host networking, but all these great laptops with desktops lagging so far behind, having such lower standards, is excessively sad, to me. atm phones are way far behind. no usb4 (with host-to-host networkingl nor tb4 are avialbable. i have a hard time imagining phones remaining market segmented out, not participating, in the good, not meeting the new bar.
