Yottabyte: This Will Never Exist
- nyxaiur 5y agoNobody could ever need more than 640kb of RAM.
- WalterGR 5y agoThanks for the report. I reverted the vandalism. :)
- simonblack 5y agoNever say 'never': I can remember a time when a computer shop guy said to me "Hey! Look at this. It's a 500 megabyte hard drive, and it's only 2 grand. That's half a gigabyte, you know!" Come to think of it, I remember how blown away I was when I first increased my 90 kilobyte floppy drive (5-inch single-side, single-density) to a 1.2 megabyte drive (8-inch, double-sided, double-density). These days, I get twitchy when my backup drive gets lower than two or three hundred gigabytes of free space.
- ttymck 5y agoThis was my exact thoughts as well. I posted in the hopes it may raise some discussion around its plausibility!
- ttymck 5y agoFrom the title: https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/7856403 https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/7856403 It appears this "vandalism" was added back in August. It certainly caught my attention.
- Grakel 5y agoHow much data does humanity currently have stored on hard drives? I think saying there will never be yottabyte storage is very short sighted.
- eindiran 5y agoThis gives you a rough idea, but it has increased a lot since 2012: http://highscalability.com/blog/2012/9/11/how-big-is-a-petabyte-exabyte-zettabyte-or-a-yottabyte.html http://highscalability.com/blog/2012/9/11/how-big-is-a-petab... A lot of companies are producing many petabytes a day of logs and data.
