A new school of astronomy has already happened. The last ~18 years has seen the acceleration due to dark energy and the shift towards data intensive/quantitative science away from more qualitative astronomy.
This has changed to composition of participating institutions, people, and methods - a new school by any definition.
What you would be arguing for is not based on any reality.

The differences are remarkable. All we hear from astro community is how terrible this change is. Well, if you read a bit of sci-fi, space (LEO) is going to get more crowded, so a solution is to get above the crowds.
