Yourself. 13 years, 14 in December, as freelancer, I get to work directly with people who have problems, my software really helps them instead of being an internal tool that will get reinvented in 5 years at big corporations. I choose my own projects, I am constantly learning in different industries, meeting (both virtually and in person) people from all 5 continents and while the pay is great my biggest motivator is that I can spend time with my family and raise my own kids. I do realize I'm one of the lucky few.
- slothtrop 5y agoHow did you get started in this?
- unnouinceput 5y agoDid an account on Upwork (was oDesk when I started) and just for giggles and luls I did bunch of their online tests. managed to be in top 1% in those tests and lo&behold I started to get invites to projects. Got clients, saw I can earn more this way and half a year later I was going full freelancer. Never looked back
- slothtrop 5y agoThanks, didn't realize they have testing.
- reasonabl_human 5y agoDid you do a stint in big tech companies prior to going freelance? Is it just you or did you form a team of devs?
- unnouinceput 5y agoYes, I worked in corporation before, for 10 years. Biggest was Siemens. And it's just me, no other developer, though sometime clients are programmers too.
