It's basically the only language that is modern, simple AND has manual memory management (Rust is complicated, Nim has managed memory, ditto with Crystal and Go, D is all over the place and mostly dead, etc...). Some game devs want full control but something more pleasant than C/C++. Essentially the same framework/engine argument applied to languages.
