Trains are so wonderful. I don't know what it is about them but I cherish every long train ride. Unfortunately being in Canada I don't get to ride on trains very much but whenever I visit Europe I always try to get around by a train rather than flying. I'm especially fond of the old style Eastern European compartments with six or eight seats to them. It's cozy and you instantly connect with the other passengers through the small talk. It's worth the extra time versus high speed rail. And the tickets are usually cheaper too. Airplanes and airports however, have the exact opposite effect on me and I'm not scared of flying. It's really the airport experience that I despise so much although the loudness of a plane is not very nice either.
