Facebook discovers there's already a company named Meta
- literallyaduck 5y agoHopefully he pays Snow Crash's author royalties.
- ascagnel_ 5y agoReminds me of when Netflix tried to spin off its DVD-by-mail business as "Qwikster", and quickly ran into the same issue.
- PhantomGremlin 5y agoBrowsing to meta.com takes me to https://about.facebook.com/meta https://about.facebook.com/meta Ergo Facebook already controls the one most important thing to know about Meta. Hard for me to believe that some little Arizona company would be able to trademark Meta "in relation to any technological use". That word has been in widespread use for quite a while. When Google became Alphabet we didn't stop teaching English in grade school.

That word has been in widespread use for quite a while. And with that same logic some little company in California shouldn't be able to trademark it in relation to any technological use either. Let's see what happens if another company wants to call itself Meta now.
- stevespang 5y agoWell, as much as I despise Facebook I must say that it's rather obvious that FB has the resources to out litigate this little Arizona company into oblivion, and Zuck is just the type of person to crush a knat standing in his way.
