The article fundamentally speaks to how industry standards led to a proliferation of synthesizers and collaboration within the music industry. The Metaverse, coincidentally, is at nearly the same crossroads as MIDI in the early 1980's. Each vendor built their own hardware and defined their own protocols. When Roland open sourced the MPU-401 chipset and gave away the MIDI specs, the industry blossomed. Anyway, a lot to learn from MIDI... if Meta can similarly align an industry around basic hardware, APIs, and formats.
