This is one of those garbage narratives being pushed recently. It falsely portrays a world where people were warned and knew of an impending global catastrophe RE: carbon.
First, a warning is nothing. It has no proof or evidence. It's just an opinion of one person. For almost every single major issue of our times, there exists a warning that was ignored. How can there not be? Most sides have two or more positions, and someone takes each position and says what that position believes out load. Then, in the future, we look back and cherry pick that piece of data, give ourselves a pat on the back for being smarter now, and look back at the dummies.
In actuality, the story presented here should have been ignored, and was ignored.
Let's examine it:
"Its presence in the atmosphere causes a greenhouse effect [....] It has been calculated that a temperature rise corresponding to a 10 per cent increase in carbon dioxide will be sufficient to melt the icecap and submerge New York. All the coastal cities would be covered, and since a considerable percentage of the human race lives in coastal regions, I think that this chemical contamination is more serious than most people tend to believe."
Ok. Earth has gone from 325ppm to 411ppm. Thats about a 25% increase.
New York is not under water, the IceCaps have not melted.
Anyone claiming this person should have been taken serious is just out of it. He got exactly what he deserved: no response.
Seems like Al Gore isn't so original after all.
