I keep seeing the word 'democratizing' used online applied to stuff where I don't understand its relevance. Surely Internet Archive is not 'democratic', but also why would that matter? Do we all need a vote on what they do? It feels like some kind of buzzword.
- Emma_Goldman 5y ago'Demos' means the common people. IA is democratising because it distributes knowledge to anyone and everyone with internet access, instead of just the rich or the global minority with access to major libraries.
