I don't think this is unexpected, despite what some posters grasping at the last speck of hopium might say. With prolonged contact like this, Delta can replicate and spread from even an average initial viral load before the anamnestic response kicks in enough to clear the infection. This is not like hepatitis B virus for sure, any hope I had of that earlier this year is now gone.
