We're still so close to the time when women weren't allowed to have checking accounts, that the cultural inertia hasn't had time to wear off yet. I am very suspicious of researchers who claim to have the answer right now.

    Was it just a straw man then? He just said such views are proven “wrong” so that would suppose someone held those views.
