Complete protection by a single-dose skin patch–delivered SARS-CoV-2 vaccine
- _Microft 5y agoSummary: first, this is a study conducted on mice. They used an array of thousands of microscopic spikes (250µm long, sharp protrusions - do not confuse this with the spike protein btw) that was directly coated with modified SARS-Cov2 spike protein. The protein was modified to stabilize its conformation, i.e. its shape, which is as important as the sequence of its amino acides. The array was applied using a spring-loaded mechanism with made it hit the skin with a velocity of a few dozen meters per second. I'm not sure why the speed would matter - it might just be a proxy for the force that the array hits the skin with and therefore how well it penetrates the upper layers?
