FDA Authorizes Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 Vaccine for Emergency Use in Children
- java-man 5y agoWoo hoo! Do we know when we can expect the vaccine authorization for 3+ year old children?
- twofornone 5y agoPersonally I'm looking forward to approval for vaccination of fetuses during pregnancy. If it saves just one life, right?
- Hallucinaut 5y agoAs I understood it 2-5yo (and then 6m+ but I can't recall if that was the same trial and timeline) were expected a few weeks after 5+. So hopefully late November at latest. I presume you're asking as a parent of a three year old so fingers crossed you get an option soon.
- java-man 5y agoI can't wait. Thank you.
- hajile 5y agoThere’s a massive correlation with decreased age and increased rates of myocarditis for all the mRNA covid vaccines. Looking at the projections from a CDC talk (reports then vs reports now vs vaccination rates), there’s easily more kids at risk of permanent heart damage than at risk of death from covid.
- Hallucinaut 5y agoAny sources? Because as I understood it when this last raised its head, the additional cases were barely above background, had low incidence of any noticeable symptoms, primarily in boys, almost all after the second shot, and evidence was suggesting it was possibly caused by hitting veins rather than muscle (and so could be reduced by doing a draw). Would be interested if the evidence has changed but as it stood last time I looked at the numbers with the almost inevitability of infection in the medium term to me there was a clear incentive to vaccinate.
- rkk3 5y agoIn the US 74.2 Million people are under 18, accounting for only 558 Covid Deaths. Don't know about data around other potential effects from Covid or potential side effects from vaccine, but risk of dying for this group is negligible. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1191568/reported-deaths-from-covid-by-age-us/ https://www.statista.com/statistics/1191568/reported-deaths-...

- Vecr 5y agoDid there used to be other comments here? I have showdead on and I'm pretty sure there was a big comment about no one in either arm getting a severe case and other statistical things. Possibly another submission? I'm not sure. Edit: Nevermind, it was: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29043426 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29043426
