Codecademy and Treehouse are both great platforms that I've used and recommend. If you're looking for a great free intro to programming, I recommend "Learn to Program", available at https://pine.fm/LearnToProgram https://pine.fm/LearnToProgram. It's concise, introduces the reader to a very approachable programming language (Ruby), and geared toward total beginners.
